A Brief History

Dr Seuss author of children's books published Green Eggs and Ham in August 12, 1960. His editor Bennett Cerf challenged him to write the book using only 50 words. Dr. Seuss took notes and created charts and checklists to meet this challenge. He rewrote the verse in the book many times before he was satisfied with the results.
Dr. Seuss believed that children's books had the power to teach children moral lessons about good and evil in society. Many of his characters in the books have conflicts and often work them out despite differences. During the book's publication a person that belonged to the Save The Pig Community started a petition to change the title to Green Eggs and Jam. The organization was against using ham associate with pigs in the title.

The main character in the book Sam I Am tries to convince Guy to eat green eggs and ham. He is persistent and obnoxious and Guy resists saying he does not like green eggs and ham anywhere. He says he will not eat green eggs and ham on a train, boat, in a house, car not anywhere.
The two characters end up in the car riding on top of train and falling into the ocean on a boat sinking. They all sink under the water but survive and come out on the beach. Finally, Guy worn out by Sam I Am constant nagging tries Green Eggs and Ham and likes it. All the character celebrate eating green eggs and ham.
Dr Seuss due to success of the book received many green eggs and ham gifts that he described as awful. There are many Dr. Seuss cookbooks with recipes for green eggs and ham and other recipes that encourage children to eat healthier.
Why Green Eggs and Ham Promotes Reading
Green Eggs and Ham is a popular children's book that has sold over 16 million copies. The repetitive rhyming words create movement and excitement in the story. The repetition and sound of the words makes it an enjoyable way to teach and motivate children to read. The whimsical illustrations hold the attention of readers until the very end.
Many believe it teaches children to accept diversity and overcome fear. Green eggs and ham is not appealing to eat and the character Guy resists trying the food until the end. Many children resist trying new foods and will not budge only eating the same thing over and over. The ending is positive as all the character walk out of the ocean and Guy tries green eggs and ham and likes it. After they have a celebration on the beach.
The main point is Green Eggs and Ham rhyming words and unique illustrations has the power to entice children to want to learn to read. Often the book is read many times without becoming boring.

Scrambled Eggs With Spinach, Parsley, Cheddar Cheese and Grilled Ham

You will need a skillet or sauté pan, measuring cups, measuring spoons, bowl, colander bowl for mixing eggs, wooden spoon, grater, cutting board, knife, strainer, and spatula. This could be recipe for green eggs and ham. This recipe is good for holidays and any time of year.
Ingredients

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup of fresh spinach chopped
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 eggs beaten
1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 slices of Black Forest Ham heated in skillet
salt and pepper to taste

Directions
Measure about half a cup of fresh spinach leaves and handful on fresh parsley. Put warm water in bowl and soak about five minutes. Strain and dry. On cutting chop the spinach and parsley into bite size pieces.
In a skillet over medium heat add olive oil, butter and garlic. Add spinach and parsley and cook about five minutes. Sauté with a wooden spoon.
Break two eggs in a bowl and beat with folk blend well. Grate cheddar cheese and add to egg mixture. Blend well. When spinach and parsley are cooked add egg mixture and use wooden spoon to sauté. Place two slices of Black Forest ham in pan and heat a few minutes on both sides.
When eggs and vegetable are cooked put on plate. Serve with slice of Black Forest Ham on the side. Serves 2,
Tip: Use just olive oil if you do not want to use butter. Heat black forest ham with scrambled eggs or after you remove them in the pan for one to two minutes.
