National Farmers Market Week is celebrated from August 4-12. It is a time to visit your local farmers market and buy fresh produce and local products made regionally. In 2023 Congress passed the Congressional Resolution to recognize National Farm Market Week. It is a way to celebrate farm markets across the US. Start by visiting a local farm market in your town, city, or region. Think about making a visit to the local farm market a regular part of your routine.

Visit a local farmers market and purchase seasonal fruits and vegetables, poultry, meat, and dairy without hormones or antibiotics.

Heirloom Tomato Salad with Goat Cheese
You will need a medium bowl, cutting board, knife, measuring spoons, small bowl, measuring cup, and spoon to the mix dressing. You will need a plate or bowl to put the salad ingredients in.
Ingredients
1 large red heirloom tomato diced
1/4 cup red onion chopped finely
1 tablespoon chopped basil
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt to taste
Instructions:
In a medium sized bowl with warm water place the vegetables and soak for about 5 minutes. Drain and dry.
On the cutting board dice the tomato into bite sized pieces. Put on plate or in bowl. Chop the red onion very fine and add to salad mix well. Add chopped basil leaves and parsley. Add 1 teaspoon minced garlic, and 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese. Using a spoon mix the ingredients well. In a small bowl mix the olive oil, lemon juice, 1 teaspoon paprika, and salt to taste. Pour over salad mix using spoon. Serve immediately. Serves 2.
Mushroom Vegetable Fried Rice
You will need a small pot or microwave dish, frying pan, or skillet, measuring cup, spoons, medium bowl, cutting board, and knife.
Ingredients:
1 cup of basmati rice
1 cup of mushroom sliced
1/2 red onion diced
1 Italian pepper seeds removed and diced
1/2 cup of fresh spinach
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon siracha sauce
2 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions:
Cook the rice in the microwave or on top of the stove according to package instructions. After the rice is cooked add 1 tablespoon oil to the frying pan over medium heat and cook the rice in the oil for about five minutes. Remove the rice to another container.
Fill a medium bowl with warm water and put all the vegetables in the bowl. Soak for about five minutes and drain. Add more olive oil to the frying pan or skillet. Slice the mushrooms, dice the onion, chop the spinach, remove seeds from the pepper discard and dice. Add the vegetables to the skillet and cook over medium heat 5 to 10 minutes. Add the rice back in and mix well. Add soy sauce and siracha sauce and mix evenly. Serve as a side dish. Serves 4

Pasta With Arrabbiata Tomato Sauce
You will need a pot for the sauce, and another to boil the spaghetti, measuring spoons, measuring cup, knife, cutting board, and strainer.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 red onion peel removed and diced fine
1/4 cup of fresh basil leaves chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 can of tomato puree
1/2 cup of vegetable broth
2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
1 pound regular or gluten free spaghetti
Instructions:
In a medium pot or frying pan add the olive oil, Cut the onion in half remove the peel and rinse under cold water. Dice the red onion and put in the pan over medium heat, chop the basil leaves and add to the onions. Add minced garlic and sauté for about five minutes and add tomato puree, vegetable broth, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Let the sauce cook for 20 minutes over medium heat put aside.
Boil the water for the spaghetti according to package directions. Strain the pasta and serve on plates with the sauce and grated cheese.
Add a salad to the menu with the pasta. Serve 2 to 4 people.
