The flexitarian diet is a good way to include more vegetable and fruits in your diet. It gives you a chance to eat less meat, poultry and fish but still include it in your diet. This diet is considered vegetarian but still includes other food categories we all love. Doctors and dietitians consider this an effective diet to move towards better health.

The diet includes fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and healthy oils. You can eat meat, poultry and fish in moderation. Grassfed meats, and products that do not use hormones or antibiotics are better for your health. The diet allows moderate consumption of protein but stresses cutting back on the amount eaten.

  • Weight Management - The diet has been effective in helping men and women who want to lose weight. It is a healthier way to lose weight over a longer period of time than using weight loss pills and other fad diets. Recipes satisfy your appetite and prevent snacking on the wrong foods.

  • This diet controls diabetes because it lowers blood glucose levels in the body. It includes fiber, foods with less sugar, and foods that have less saturated fat. All these factors help control blood sugar levels. The foods break down more slowly and does not lead to extreme hunger.

  • The diet is more flexible that strict diets and allows you to cut down on meats, poultry, sugar, and fat in a less extreme way. It includes all the food groups in the pyramid. The groups include grains and cereal, fruit and vegetables, eggs and dairy, beans, healthy oils, meat, fish poultry, and sweets.

  • The diet boosts the immune system and helps reduce the risk of getting heart disease, diabetes and cancer according to some studies.

  • The flexitarian diet is sustainable and benefits the environment. It reduces greenhouse gases, use of land, and water. This is because it cuts back on the use of meat, poultry and fish in the diet. Those on the diet may grow their own vegetables and fruit and buy more from local vendors. It supports guidelines for improving the environment.
